Vistra completed Phase II of their clean energy facility on August 19, 2021, 3 months ahead of schedule! Phase II added an additional 100 megawatt/400 megawatt-hours to the already 300 megawatt/1,200 megawatt-hours Moss Landing facility for a total of 400 megawatt/1,600 megawatt-hours. In Phase I, the storage unit could power 225,000 homes, but now it has the energy to bring power to 300,000 homes, making it the largest battery energy storage system in the world.
The Moss Landing Power Storage Facility is a part of the Vistra Zero portfolio- the mission to invest in and produce zero-carbon clean energy. Vistra has plans to continue adding to the low-emission grid in two more phases with the hopes of providing energy for over 1 million homes.
